Generations at Work

Sometimes it is easy to overlook, when caught in the blur of the modern work environment, that people are not all the same. There are now four distinct generations rubbing shoulders in the workplace, each of which carries its own set of priorities and loyalties. These are:

• Veterans (born pre 1950)
• Baby Boomers (born 1950-1964)
• Generation X (born in the 70's, raised in the 80's)
• Generation Y (also called Millennials or the iGeneration)

Our session outlines the most common characteristics of these four groups, and their attitudes/ideas about:

• Time Management
• Team loyalty
• Company loyalty
• Sacrifice and entitlement
• Work-Life Balance
• Deadlines and work hours
• Relationships to older or young colleagues or managers
• Multitasking
• Communication techniques (texting, phone, email, SMS etc.)
• Face-to-face communication
• Giving and receiving criticism or feedback
• Retirement and security

This workshop equips participants with an understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of these different types of employee, with the goal of identifying techniques for improved communication, collaboration and understanding.
